Heathen Holytides

Jul

Next full lunar cycle after the winter solstice

Jul is the traditional celebration of the folk as they go into the longest, coldest part of the winter weather ahead.  This is when the last of the animals that they cannot afford to keep through the winter are slaughtered and a great feast is held.  It is where many of the modern Christian Christmas traditions come from.

Walpurgisnacht

Mayday eve

Walpurgisnacht is the Springtime festival wherein the folk begin to prepare for planting and give honor to Frey for the coming harvest.  We at Ondheim Theodish Fellowship do our Sigrblot at this time of year.  Sigrblot is a call for victory in our endeavors for the coming year.

Midsummer

Next full lunar cycle after the Summer Solstice

Midsummer is the time to celebrate summer and bring the folk together. It is the time when the yearly thing is held and disputes that aren’t pressing for time can be addressed and settled. It is when we can discuss the generalized plans for the tribe for the coming year.

WinterNights

Next full lunar cycle after the fall equinox

This is the time of year when the folk are beginning to prepare for the coming winter. It is when the first of the animals that wont last the winter are slaughtered, and also the time of year when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, and the ancestors are close at hand. It is when we usually do our Disablot and pay honor to the ancestral mothers of the tribe.

*A full lunar cycle is the full moon that follows a new moon.
